Joan Loughnane is the Acting Deputy United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Joan began her career with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in 2002, and was an Assistant in the Violent Crimes Unit and the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force.  In 2009, she became the Co-Chief of the General Crimes Unit, where she served from 2009 to 2011.  From 2011 to 2014, Ms. Loughnane was a Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, and in 2015, she served as the Acting Chief of the Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit.  From 2015 to 2017, Ms. Loughnane was Chief Counsel to the U.S. Attorney.

Joan is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Harvard College.  She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Lewis A. Kaplan, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York..
