Jo Rickard is a partner in Shearman & Sterling’s Litigation Group in London.  She has wide commercial litigation experience advising corporates, banks, liquidators and receivers as well as self-regulatory bodies in relation to a variety of claims.  She is recognised as a leading practitioner in banking litigation and commercial litigation in the Legal Experts guide 2012, and as a leading individual in Legal 500 2013 and Chambers 2014.  She is also named as a Super Lawyer in the commercial litigation category in the 2014 London Super Lawyers List.

Jo Rickard joined Shearman & Sterling in 2006.  She was a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from 1981-2006.  While there she was the joint head of the worldwide Dispute Resolution Practice Group for five years and managing partner of Dispute Resolution in London for nine years.  For two years from 1995 she was seconded to Lloyd’s of London as Director of Legal Services reporting to the then chairman, Sir David Rowland.

  • Acting for Robert Tchenguiz in relation to a claim for damages against the SFO
  • Obtaining court order for recovery of IT equipment from employee of company
  • Intervening in court proceedings on behalf of ICE Clear in relation to MF Global and settling claim
  • Advising on multi-jurisdictional enforcement of agreement
  • Advising football club on disciplinary proceedings against a footballer
  • Acting for Imcopa in relation to successfully resisting a challenge to majority vote on restructuring
  • Challenge in court to liability management exercise on behalf of bondholders
  • Advising on a reinsurance contract involving a major property development
  • Court application to obtain information in relation to internet hacking of an investment company
  • Investigation into alleged competition law breaches for a financial institution
  • Advising in relation to remedies available for breaches of a long term telecommunications supply contract
  • Advising ICE in relation to phishing incidents involving EU emission allowances including maintaining market continuity in a key market where there was potential user concern over market integrity and certainty
  • Advising NESV in relation to their purchase of Liverpool Football Club and continuing litigation
  • Advising Areva SA in relation to a £250 million damages action brought by the National Grid in the English High Court against Areva and a number of other defendants.This is the largest ever damages action brought in the UK for breach of antitrust rules
