Jeffrey P. Taft is a partner based in the Washington, D.C. office of Mayer Brown LLP. He focuses on banking regulations, bank receivership and insolvency issues, payment systems, consumer financial services, privacy issues and anti-money laundering laws. Mr. Taft is also experienced in handling financial services regulatory and enforcement issues relating to banks, bank holding companies and other financial institutions. He counsels financial institutions, merchants and other entities on various federal and state credit issues, including compliance with unfair or deceptive practices statutes and regulations such as the Truth-in-Lending Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act; and the creation and implementation of privacy and information security programs under Title V of the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act and state privacy laws. Mr. Taft authored “Banking and Consumer Credit Regulation,” Chapter 13, Credit Market and Subprime Distress: Responding to Legal Issues, Jon Van Gorp, ed., Practising Law Institute, 2008 and is a contributor to Truth in Lending, an American Bar Association publication. He is also a veteran public speaker and is active in the American Bar Association’s Banking Law and Consumer Financial Services subcommittees of the Business Law Section.
