James Ackerman is a Compliance Specialist in the Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance, at the U.S. Department of State.  He joined the office in January 2014.  His work involves reviewing voluntary and directed disclosures, supporting law enforcement cases, and engaging with the defense industry to ensure proper compliance with the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).  Prior to joining the Department of State, Mr. Ackerman practiced law at a D.C. firm for seven years, where he specialized in large case management and electronic discovery.  He received a BA in Political Science from the Colorado College, a J.D. from University of Notre Dame Law School, and an LL.M in International and Comparative Law from the George Washington University Law School.
