J.P. Kumar serves as Corporate Counsel at Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois. He has been with Caterpillar since 2004 and has been active in the company’s Pro Bono Program since the program’s founding in 2006. Mr. Kumar was the first Chairman of the Pro Bono Committee in the Peoria office and now serves on the Division-wide Steering Committee for the Pro Bono Program. He works in the Litigation Section of Caterpillar’s Legal Services Division and in that capacity manages product and other litigation and supervises the mass tort group and litigation support function. Prior to his career at Caterpillar, Mr. Kumar practiced commercial and product litigation for seven years at Thompson & Knight in Houston and Dallas, Texas. Mr. Kumar is a 1993 graduate of Dartmouth College and a 1997 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and is pursuing a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
