IoT: Technology Protocols & Standards: Proprietary versus Open [01:15:30]

For IoT devices to effectively interoperate and efficiently communicate they must use compatible means of communication and optimally, their data streams should utilize standard formats. However, there are multiple standards and protocols that may foil interoperability, efficacy and economics.  Some are proprietary, and others are open; some require royalties and others may be royalty free but may require sharing derivative works.  For IoT to deliver on its true potential the right licensing or adoption path is essential.  Our panel will debate the pros and cons of each path.

Leonard T. Nuara (Panel Leader); Gerard James Hayes, Heather J. Meeker
