Ilizabeth Gonchar Hempstead is a Program Attorney responsible for planning content for PLI’s pro bono, skills and ethics programs. As part of PLI’s pro bono group, she works with various legal aid and nonprofit organizations, government agencies, law firms, and others to develop trainings that meet public service organizations’ professional development goals and that also assist attorneys in the private sector who take pro bono matters. Prior to joining PLI, Ilizabeth was an associate at Lankler Siffert & Wohl LLP, an Equal Justice Works Fellow at the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund (now Legal Momentum), adjunct professor of legal issues for non-profit organizations at Seton Hall University in the graduate program in public administration, and a special assistant for intergovernmental affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor. Ilizabeth graduated cum laude, with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and cum laude, with a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she was an Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Fellow, Institute for Judicial Administration Fellow, McKay Scholar, and Review of Law and Social Change, Staff Editor.
