Howard Lam is a partner in the firm's finance practice group based in Hong Kong. He has a broad finance practice, with a particular focus on banking finance and restructurings. He has worked on a number of high profile financing transactions in Europe and Asia.

Howard has advised lenders, investors, trustees, agents and corporates on a wide range of finance transactions. He has worked on a number of major syndicated loans, pre-IPO loans, China outbound lending, real estate financing, project financing, commodities-backed financing and acquisition financing transactions, including leveraged buy-outs, for clients in London, Hong Kong, Beijing and other countries in Asia. Besides banking finance, Howard also specialises in complex restructurings and insolvencies, acting for creditors, debtors and distressed investors. His experience in this area includes the Lehman Brothers insolvency, schemes of arrangement, provisional liquidators' appointments, receivership sales, bondholders' enforcements and consensual restructuring in a number of jurisdictions in Europe and Asia. He has worked on a number of private convertible bonds and, more recently, offshore RMB bond issues.

Qualifications and Education

Howard qualified in 1999 and is admitted as a solicitor in both England & Wales and Hong Kong. He graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia, with a Bachelor of Commerce and has received Post-graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School. He has also obtained a LLM from the University of Hong Kong and a Professional Certificate on Chinese Civil and Commercial Law from Tsinghua University, Beijing.

He speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
