Howard B. Abrams is a Professor of Law at the School of Law of the University of Detroit Mercy.  He has also been a visiting professor at Fordham law School and the University of Michigan Law School.  He received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. (Philosophy) from the University of Michigan.  He specializes in copyright and entertainment law, areas in which he practiced prior to his academic career.  He is the author of The Law of Copyright, an annually updated two volume treatise on copyright law published by Thomson-Reuters.  Professor Tyler T. Ochoa was added as a coauthor in 2015.  He has written many law review articles which have been published in The Supreme Court Review, Law and Contemporary Problems and The Journal of the Copyright Society among other venues.  He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of the Copyright Society and the American Journal of Comparative Law.  He has frequently been a speaker or panelist at programs on copyright and entertainment law both in the U.S. and other countries.  He was the General Reporter on Author’s Rights for the 1994 International Congress of Comparative Law in Athens, Greece, has twice served as a Trustee of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. and is currently President of the Intellectual Property Law Institute, a consortium of the law schools of the University of Detroit, Wayne State University and the University of Windsor (Canada).
