Judge Pauley was appointed as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York on October 22, 1998 and entered on duty on October 28, 1998.

Judge Pauley graduated from Duke University with an A.B. degree magna cum laude in 1974 and received his J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law in 1977.

Following graduation from law school, Judge Pauley served as a Deputy County Attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Nassau County Attorney’s Office. Thereafter, he entered private practice with a mid-town Manhattan law firm. From 1985 until his investiture, Judge Pauley was a partner in a mid-town litigation boutique, where his practice focused on complex federal civil litigation. From 1984 until his appointment, Judge Pauley also served as Assistant Counsel to the New York State Assembly Minority.

Judge Pauley is a member of the Federal Bar Council, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the Nassau County Bar Association.
