Diane Kiesel is an acting Supreme Court Justice presiding over the Bronx Integrated Domestic Violence Court.  She is the author of Domestic Violence: Law, Policy and Practice, first published in 2007 by Matthew Bender/Lexis Nexis.  A second edition is due out next year.

Judge Kiesel was first appointed to the criminal court bench in 1999.  Prior to her appointment, she spent 10 years as an assistant district attorney in the Office of the New York County District Attorney where she prosecuted major felonies, sex crimes, and police corruption.  Her last position at the office was as deputy chief of the Child Abuse Unit.

Before working at the District Attorney’s office, Judge Kiesel was an associate at the law firm of Cahill Gordon and Reindel.  She was also a law clerk to a judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Judge Kiesel graduated from the law school at the Catholic University of America, has a master’s degree in public affairs journalism from the American University in Washington, D.C., and is a graduate of Douglass College, Rutgers University.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Judge Kiesel was a newspaper reporter and magazine writer.  She is the winner of the 1983 Worth Bingham Prize for distinguished investigative journalism.  She is the author of She Can Bring Us Home: Dr. Dorothy Boulding Ferebee, Civil Rights Pioneer, published in 2015 by the Potomac Books imprint of the University of Nebraska Press for which she won the 2016 National Book Prize from the Colonial Dames of America and the Virginia Historical Society Award for the best Virginia biography in 2015.
