Judge Barbara S. Jones was sworn in as a Federal District Judge for the Southern District of New York on January 22, 1996. She received a B.A. degree from Mount St. Mary's College at Los Angeles, California in 1986 and a J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law in 1973.

From 1973 to 1977, Judge Jones served as Special Attorney in the Honors Program of the Unites States Department of Justice in the Manhattan Strike Force against Organized Crime and Racketeering. From 1977 to 1987, she was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, serving as the Chief of the Organized Crime Strike Force from 1984 until 1987. In 1987, Judge Jones became Chief Assistant to Robert M. Morgenthau, the District Attorney of New York County, a post she held until she joined the bench.
Judge Jones has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law since 1985. She is also a Judicial Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, President of the William C. Conner Intellectual Property Inn of Court, a member and past president of the New York County Lawyer's Association American Inn of Court, and has served on the Executive Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Judge Jones was recently appointed to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation for a six year term.
