Hassen A. Sayeed, M.D. is a partner in the Intellectual Property practice at Paul Hastings based in the firm’s New York office. Dr. Sayeed is one of the few patent litigators in the United States who holds a medical degree. He counsels life sciences companies in all aspects of complex patent litigation to help businesses achieve their strategic goals in district and appellate courts.

Dr. Sayeed has more than a decade of experience with cases arising under the Hatch-Waxman Act on behalf of pioneer pharmaceutical companies. He has also litigated cases involving biotechnology and medical devices. Clients have included AstraZeneca LP, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences, Inc., Genzyme Corporation, Kissei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Medac Pharma, Inc. and Medac GmbH, Pfizer, Schering Corporation, Senju Pharmaceuticals and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

  • Kissei Pharmaceutical Co. et al. v. Hetero Labs and Sandoz Inc. (D. Del.): Counsel for Kissei in ANDA litigation concerning Rapaflo®, a drug used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Medac Pharma, Inc. and Medac GmbH v. Antares Pharma, Inc. (D.N.J.; D. Del): Counsel for Medac as both plaintiff and defendant in patent infringement cases involving methotrexate and autoinjector technology.
  • Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. et al v. River’s Edge Pharmaceuticals LLC, et al. (N.D. Ga): Counsel for Bayer and Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences in ANDA litigation concerning Desonate®, a topical corticosteroid cream.
  • Senju Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. et al v. Apotex, Inc. (S.D.N.Y): Counsel for Senju in ANDA litigations involving Istalol® eye care drops.
  • AstraZeneca LP et al v. Breath Limited et al. (D.N.J.): Counsel for AstraZeneca in ANDA litigation concerning Pulmicort Respules®, an inhalation medication for the treatment of pediatric asthma. 
  • Genzyme Corporation v. Seikagaku Corp. et al. (D. Mass.): Counsel for Genzyme in a patent infringement action concerning a method of using a medical device for osteoarthritis treatment.
  • Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics, Inc. v. Wyeth and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (E.D. Tex.): Counsel for Wyeth in a patent infringement case and interference-in-fact involving recombinant Factor VIII used to treat Hemophilia A.
  • Cancer Research Tech. Ltd. & Schering Corp. v. Barr Labs, Inc. (D. Del.): Counsel for Cancer Research and Schering in ANDA litigation concerning Temodar®, a chemotherapy drug used in the treatment of glioma.
