Hans P. Goebel is a Mexican lawyer who specialises in mergers & acquisitions, private equity, capital markets, and banking and finance.

Mr. Goebel is a partner of Nader, Hayaux and Goebel, and handles a range of corporate, financial and capital market matters. He is an expert in complex structured finance deals and security issuances and has developed niche expertise in CKDs (development capital certificates), a new type of security instrument recently introduced in Mexico.

He is recognised by the main legal publications for his outstanding expertise. Chambers Latin America ranks him as a leading individual for Capital Markets, describing him as a "very strong and reliable lawyer," and highlighting his "rare combination of profound legal knowledge, acute business sense and dedication."  Other recent editorial commentary in this publication includes feedback from clients who point out that Mr. Goebel is "at the cutting edge of new financial products and corporate law" and "accessible, responsive and great to work with." Recent work highlights include:

  • Advised Axis in the structuring and issuance of CKDs (capital development certificates) placed on the Mexican Securities Exchange for the equivalent of MxP$6,500 million pesos in investment commitments.
  • Advised Axis in the formation of a fund and joint venture with Temasek and Ares, which will invest in energy-related companies, having equity commitments for US$250 million dollars.
  • Advised Navix in the structuring and issuance of CKDs (capital development certificates) placed on the Mexican Securities Exchange for the equivalent of MxP$4,002 million pesos.
  • Advised Bulltick as placement agent in Proteak Uno's MxP$790 million pesos IPO. This was the first IPO of a Mexican company charted under the SAPIB legal regime and the first green company to issue stock on the Mexican Securities Exchange.


Mr. Goebel spent a year working in the Chicago office of international law firm Mayer Brown, having received his LL.M. (with honours) from the Northwestern University School of Law of Chicago. He graduated as an attorney from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and has lectured in Financial Contracts at the Universidad Iberoamericana. He currently acts as independent director and Board secretary of various financial institutions.
