George Metaxas is an experienced EU competition (antitrust), electronic communications law and IP lawyer, and has been practising in Brussels since 1989. Since January 2008, he is a partner of Oswell & Vahida, a Brussels-based, independent law firm set up by EU law practitioners.

His experience in intellectual property matters goes back to his work at the International Legal Affairs unit of the European Patent Office, in Munich, and includes advice on European intellectual property legislation, licensing work and related matters, with special emphasis on the interface between IP, antitrust and e-communications matters. He also lectures and writes on intellectual property issues and was the editor and co-author of the first comparative law book on the Intellectual Property Laws of Europe (Wiley, 1995).

His practice also includes the EU and international clearance of major transactions, complaints and other actions before the European Commission, litigation before the European Courts, and general advice on competition issues, including state aid and cartel work. He is widely recognized as a leading EU electronic communications lawyer, advising new entrants, incumbents, and regulatory agencies on a wide range of issues associated with market entry, regulation, access disputes and the evolving European regime for electronic communications.
