In federal and state courts across the United States, Geoff Ritts focuses on defending corporations, officers, and directors in securities, shareholder, and derivative litigation. Among his recent engagements, Geoff represented a major bank holding company in numerous securities, derivative, and ERISA lawsuits arising out of the subprime mortgage crisis. He represented an investment management firm in an MDL and related proceedings arising out of the Bernard Madoff scandal. He defended a national retailer in M&A litigation that was dismissed after the plaintiffs' motion for class certification was denied. On numerous occasions, Geoff has assisted clients in winning dismissal of securities litigation complaints under the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act (PSLRA), or in winning dismissal of derivative complaints for failure of the plaintiff to make a pre-suit demand. Representative clients in recent matters of public record include KeyCorp, PNC Financial Services, Macy's, Cardinal Health, Cooper Tire & Rubber, U.S. Bank, Steris, Diebold and FirstMerit.

Geoff has been invited to testify before the Ohio Legislature on class actions, and authored proposed revisions to Ohio Rule of Civil Procedure 23 that were adopted by the Ohio Supreme Court in 2015.
