Gareth Rees was called to the Bar in 1981. His practice has concentrated on criminal fraud and white collar defence work since the early 1990s. He has represented defendants in some of the most high profile UK fraud trials dealing with conspiracy to defraud, market abuse, bribery, corruption, insider dealing, money laundering and sanctions offences. He advised individuals and corporates in many areas arising out of UK and international and off-shore investigations.

He also developed a major practice acting in financial regulatory and disciplinary cases and has written and spoken widely on these issues.

Gareth was appointed Queens Counsel in 2003 and was consistently considered as one of the leaders in his field by his peers. In 2012 he was appointed Executive Counsel at the Financial Reporting Council with responsibility for the investigation and prosecution of misconduct by auditors, accountants and actuaries affecting the UK public interest.
