Open Invention Network

Jaime has more than 25 years of experience as an Intellectual Property attorney and business leader. Jaime spent over 15 years at Sony, ultimately as the Vice President and Senior IP Counsel, where he was responsible for defending Sony entities around the world and leading Sony's outward licensing activities in various technologies, including digital television and standards licensing programs. The licensing program Jaime was responsible for at Sony enabled the extensive commercialization of Sony technology, and was a direct contributor to shareholder value.

Jaime is an expert in patent pools, having sat on the Board of MPEG LA for many years, including as the Chairman of the Board for two years during an important transitional period. After Sony, Jaime briefly joined Acacia Research, a patent aggregation company which seeks to license technologies broadly across industry, including partnering with small to medium sized patent holders in support of their mutual interests.

In addition to his work in support of the expansion of the OIN community of licensees, Jaime is also the CEO of Cerebral Assets, LLC, a full service intellectual property advisory firm based in Newport Beach, California. Cerebral Assets works with its international clients on diverse projects related to intellectual property matters, including strategic guidance, deal facilitation, buy/sell brokerage services, and executive leadership and execution on licensing programs.

Jaime began his career in New York City at the prestigious patent law firms, Fish & Neave and Kenyon & Kenyon.

In addition to his OIN role and his activities at Cerebral Assets, Jaime is an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Irvine, where he teaches Patent Licensing. He is also Managing Director of Golden Seeds, which is the world's largest Angel investing group focused solely on female-led enterprises. He is a National Trustee of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, in Cleveland, Ohio. Jaime is a frequent speaker on intellectual property including both business and legal issues.

Jaime has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Prior to attending law school, Jaime was an engineer in the aerospace industry, spending time with Grumman Aerospace and General Dynamics.
