Fred Shaheen is Chief Counsel, Global Trade for The Boeing Company and is a member of the Global Law Affairs group.  Fred is based in the Arlington, VA office.  As Chief Counsel, he is the senior internal counsel for all export, import and sanctions matters.

Prior to joining Boeing, Fred was in private practice for sixteen years in Washington, DC.  He was the national Chairman for two practice groups at Greenberg Traurig, LLP where he headed the firm's export controls and government contracts practice groups.  During his seven years with that firm he advised Fortune 500 Defense and Aerospace companies on a broad range of export control issues as well as compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.  Previous to his legal career, Fred was a political appointee at the Department of State where he worked on nuclear arms control negotiations.  Prior to his State Department service he was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy serving in nuclear submarines and surface combatants.  His Naval service also afforded him assignments at the Department of State and Department of Defense in various policy positions.

Born in Utica, NY, Fred received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University.  He later earned a Master’s degree in Russian Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, CA, where he was awarded the school's National Security Award.  Fred is a graduate of The George Washington University School of Law in Washington, DC.  Fred is a member of the bar in both Washington, DC and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Fred is married to Rosemarie, a lobbyist and his daughter Alexandra is a national security analyst.
