Frank Sun is a corporate partner in the Hong Kong office of Kirkland & Ellis. Qualified as an attorney in the State of New York, a solicitor in Hong Kong and a member of the PRC bar, Frank focuses his practice on private equity investment and mergers and acquisitions and has extensive experience representing private equity funds and private and public companies in a broad range of public and private M&A transactions. 

Some of the recent transactions in which Frank played a leading role include:

• China Traditional Chinese Medicine Co. Limited (HKSE: 570), in its pending US$1.34 billion acquisition of a 81.48% stake in Jiangyin Tianjiang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. from seven sellers including two CICC-affiliated funds, Shanghai Jiahua United Co., Ltd. (SSE: 600315) and Guangdong Keda Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (SSE: 600499).

• Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. (NYSE: QIHU), a leading Internet company in China, in forming a strategic partnership with Hong Kong-listed Coolpad Group Limited (HKSE: 2369), a leading smartphone company in China, by investing US$409.05 million in Coolpad Ecommerce Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Coolpad, for a 45% equity interest.

• CITIC Securities International Company Limited, in connection with its investment in China Huarong Asset Management Co. Ltd, one of China’s four asset management companies founded to resolve non-performing loans of China's state-owned banks.  The investment was part of a RMB 14.54 billion (USD 2.35 billion) pre-IPO placement by China Huarong to strategic investors.  

• Vipshop Holdings Limited, China's leading discount online retailer for brands, in its US$132.5 million acquisition of a 75% equity interest in Lefeng.com Limited, an online retailer of cosmetics and fashion products, and its US$55.8 million acquisition of a 23% equity interest in China-based cosmetics producer Ovation Entertainment Limited.

• Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in its US$175 million pre-IPO acquisition of a minority interest in a Chinese healthcare company through a subscription and purchase of shares.

Frank was an instructor of the Private Equity Fundamentals Course sponsored by the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association in September 2014.
