Evan Lee received an A.B. from UC Berkeley in Political Science and a J.D. from Yale University. He clerked for the Hon. William H. Orrick in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He was associated with the San Francisco firm Cooper, White & Cooper before becoming a law professor. He is a member of the California bar.

Professor Lee teaches Federal Courts, Constitutional Law, and Criminal Law. The Hastings students have voted Professor Lee "Professor of the Year" four times. He has also won the Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching. 

Professor Lee has published leading articles in the Harvard Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, The Supreme Court Review, Northwestern Law Review, Vanderbilt Law Review, Southern California Law Review, Hastings Law Journal, and many others. He is the author of Judicial Restraint in America (Oxford University Press, 2011) and co-author of Federal Courts, Federalism, and Separation of Powers: Cases and Materials (5th ed. 2013) (with Professor Donald L. Doernberg). He has given numerous lectures to federal judges on behalf of the Federal Judicial Center and participates annually as a faculty member in the Center's "Supreme Court Term in Review."
