Eric S. Purple is a Partner in the Washington, DC office of K&L Gates LLP.  Mr. Purple counsels closed-end investment companies (including business development companies), mutual funds, and exchange traded funds and their independent directors on matters arising under U.S. federal securities laws.

Prior to private practice, Mr. Purple served for eight years in the Division of Investment Management of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. As a senior counsel in the division's Office of Chief Counsel, he was engaged in a wide range of investment company and investment adviser issues, and he participated in the grant of no-action relief under the federal securities laws.  He also had significant involvement in the staff's oversight of the regulation of closed-end investment companies and business development companies.

Mr. Purple is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Alabama School of Law, where he served on the managing board of the Alabama Law Review.  Mr. Purple holds an LL.M. in Securities Regulation from Georgetown University Law Center, and is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia.
