Elizabeth Morris is Assistant General Counsel & Director of Intellectual Property Law at KLA-Tencor Corporation, a global, capital equipment company that designs, manufactures, markets and services yield monitoring and process control systems for the semiconductor manufacturing industry.  At KLA-Tencor, Ms. Morris’s responsibilities include patent portfolio management, patent strategy development, patent litigation management, and competitive analysis.

Ms. Morris has extensive experience in patent prosecution in a wide range of technologies including wafer and reticle defect inspection, metrology, optical imaging, e-Beam inspection, software, business methods, consumer electronic devices, electric vehicles, wind power, medical devices, and mobile device products.  Ms. Morris has drafted numerous applications, office action responses, appeals, reexaminations, diligence request responses, and in managing patent portfolios.  She has specialized experience in patent prosecution highway procedures, fast prosecution mechanisms, and design patents. 

At KLA-Tencor, Ms. Morris monitors application quality and provides feedback to outside prosecutors to assure responsiveness and conformance to quality standards and budget.  She also educates outside counsel regarding overall patent strategy.  She works closely with product divisions to understand business priorities and incorporate those into the patent strategy for both domestic and foreign filing.  She organizes bi-monthly patent disclosure review meetings with all division technology leaders and provides guidance regarding the patentability of inventions under review.  Furthermore, she encourage generation of patent applications by evangelization of the patent program, education, issuance congratulations, filing awards, and yearly celebrations.

Previously, Ms. Morris was a senior associate at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP.  Ms. Morris focused her practice on patent prosecution, licensing, and litigation covering a wide range of technologies.  Ms. Morris was also the Associate Chair of her office’s Pro Bono committee for more than 4 years.

Ms. Morris currently serves on the board of the Santa Clara City Library Foundation & Friends.  Ms. Morris has served as President of the Executive Committee for Women in Licensing Bay Area.  She has also been the Executive Director for Leading Women in Technology.

Ms. Morris received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2006, where she served as Editor-in-Chief for the Santa Clara Computer & High Technology Law Journal and as a research assistant to Professor Donald S. Chisum, author of Chisum on Patents. 

Ms. Morris was in Honors Engineering program at Purdue University, where she received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. While she was there, Ms. Morris founded a women-in-engineering cooperative that is still active today.
