Elizabeth Barna is recognized as a distinguished professional in her field. She is a nationally recognized expert on the subject of asylum law. She practices all aspects of immigration law with a concentration in asylum and removal. Elizabeth currently serves on two national committees of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA): the EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review) Liaison Committee, and the Transparency Task Force.  She also serves as an AILA National Asylum Mentor.  Elizabeth has served on AILA’s National Asylum Committee. She is the immediate past Chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s New York chapter, the organizations largest. She is a member of and serves on several AILA NY committees. She assists in the Juvenile Docket program of AILA NY’s Pro Bono Committee.  She chaired its Asylum/EOIR/Office of the Chief Counsel Committee twice.  She lectures on Asylum, Convention Against Torture, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), and T and U Visas (for victims of severe human trafficking and victims of crimes) for AILA, as well as other organizations.  She guest lectures on the practical aspects of representing asylum seekers at New York Law School, and is a volunteer for its Justice Action Center’s Safe Passage Project.
