Eleni Wolfe-Roubatis is the Immigration Program Director at Oakland’s Centro Legal de la Raza (Cento Legal).   Prior to joining Centro Legal in 2013, Eleni worked for eight years at the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC)’s Detention Project in positions that demanded multidisciplinary advocacy expertise, intensive mentoring and supervision, and management of creative, cutting-edge legal programs. At Centro Legal, Eleni oversees immigration direct legal services, pro bono program, advocacy, and litigation efforts. Eleni has been instrumental in growing Centro Legal’s immigration program from two staff members to a staff  of twenty-five in order to meet the needs of unaccompanied minors and formerly detained families seeking asylum, detained immigrants, and victims of violent crimes.  In addition, Eleni developed partnerships with area law schools where she trains and oversees students’ legal rights presentations and legal intakes at immigration detention facilities, in-house Centro Legal clinics, and off-site clinics throughout Northern and Central California. She also trains and mentors pro bono attorneys in their representation of immigrants in detained and non-detained proceedings. .   Eleni has conducted local and national trainings for immigration and criminal defense attorneys on topics including the immigration consequences of criminal offenses for non-citizens, advanced issues in representing detained individuals and representation of individuals with mental health issues .  Eleni has a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
