Work History:

Elaine Stracker has more than 16 years of intellectual property, transaction, litigation, and compliance experience in the scientific, pharmaceutical, medical device and technology industries. Currently, she is consultant.  Most recently, she was General Counsel for Pharmacyclics and was instrumental in the sale of the company for $21 billion dollars in 2015 to Abbvie Inc. the largest biopharma sale in the industry per number of employees.

Prior to that Dr. Stracker was senior counsel at Medtronic where she handled legal and business-related matters such as transactions, regulatory, and compliance.  Previously, she held positions of increasing responsibility within companies such as Gilead Science Inc., Merck & Co., Inc., Molecular Probes, Inc., and Affymax Research Institute, a company created by GlaxoSmithKline, during which her portfolio expanded to address a variety of U.S. and global business matters. She also has acted as a consultant to Supergen, Inc., and Alexza MDC, and has been of counsel to Isbester & Associates, LLP.  Earlier in her career, Dr Stracker focused primarily on intellectual property prosecution and litigation in positions at Geron Corporation and Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder LLP.

Dr Stracker earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Davis.  In addition, she earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the Boalt School of Law at the University of California.  She is licensed to practice law in California, and is a registered patent attorney of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She is the recipient of several honors and distinctions including a Tribute to Women in Industry Award and a Jurisprudence Award for Patent Law, and is published in the area of advanced licensing agreements.
