Edmond L. Papantonio is Vice President and Corporate Counsel with The Prudential Insurance Company of America in Newark, NJ.  As a lawyer with the Enterprise Regulatory Law Group, Ed advises Prudential’s businesses and corporate groups on political law issues – campaign finance, pay-to-play, government ethics and lobbying – and is counsel to Prudential’s PACs.  He is also involved in creating and promulgating related policies, standards and procedures, as well as advising Prudential’s businesses worldwide on anti-bribery and anti-corruption regulation.  Also, he is a member of Prudential Financial, Inc.’s Core Team for preparing its Resolution Plan as a non-bank systemically important financial institution.

Prior to joining Prudential in 2010, Ed performed similar roles in the political law area at Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers, where he was a vice-president in Fixed Income Compliance advising the municipal securities department in all aspects of the business from investment banking, underwriting, syndication, sales and trading through research.

Ed joined Lehman Brothers in Japan as its General Counsel for Asia, and has worked in Japan for 14 years, previously holding in-house positions with Swiss Bank and PaineWebber as well.  While in Japan, Ed was Chairman of the International Bankers Association, a member of the Tokyo Dai-ni Bengoshikai and of the Legal and Regulatory Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Ed has been a member of the New York Bar since 1980 and is also qualified as In House Counsel with the New Jersey Bar.  During his 11 years in private practice, he specialized in a broad range of securities and financing transactions both in the US and in Asia.

Ed attended Fordham Law School (J.D.), the University of Michigan (A.M. in Japanese Literature, Foreign Language Fellow and Japan Foundation Fellow), and Georgetown University (B.A. cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa).   He served as a Lieutenant, USNR, and speaks and reads Japanese, as well as several romance languages.  Ed performs pro bono legal services with the New Jersey branch of KIND (Kids in Need of Defense).
