Edith Shih is the Head Group General Counsel (since 1993) and Company Secretary (since 1997) of Hutchison Whampoa Limited. At Hutchison, she heads a team of over 270 legal counsels and 50 company secretarial executives, stationed in over 60 offices in 23 countries, overseeing all legal, corporate secretarial and regulatory compliance affairs of the group. She also acts as director and company secretary of a number of Hutchison group companies, including listed companies in Hong Kong, London and Australia. 

 The Hutchison legal team has received numerous awards over the years and Ms Shih herself is the recipient of the Asia Law Business Hong Kong In-House Lawyer of the Year award in 2006 and the first recipient of the In-House award of the Asia Women in Business Law Awards in 2011. She takes lead in mega transactions of the Hutchison group that make newspaper headlines and legal journals as well as spearheads ground breaking legal structures. A stern proponent of good corporate governance, she spends considerable time and efforts on inculcating and upholding high standards of corporate governance within the Hutchison Group and the industry.

Prior to taking up the post of Head Group General Counsel at Hutchison Whampoa, Ms Shih was General Manager, Office of Group Managing Director of Hutchison Whampoa, in charge of business development and strategic planning (1991-1993), Executive Director of Corporate Finance and Direct Investment at CEF Capital Limited (1989-1991) and Solicitor with Mayer Brown JSM, formerly Johnson Stokes & Master (1985-1989).

Ms Shih holds a Bachelor's degree in Education (Music) and a Master's degree (Education) from the University of the Philippines and Master's degrees - TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Applied Linguistics from Columbia University, New York. She pursued legal studies at the College of Law in London and is qualified to practise law in England and Wales, Hong Kong and Victoria, Australia. She is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries.

Ms Shih was a member of the Standing Committee on Companies Law Reform (2006-2012) and a member of the Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Clearing Limited (2009 - 2012). She is a government appointed lay member of the Council (since 2008) of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the General Committee of the Hong Kong Management Association (since 2011) and President (since 2012) and Council member (since 2008) of the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries.

Ms Shih has been a sponsor of Po Leung Kuk Orphanage (since 1984), member of the Executive and Special Projects Committees of Helping Hand (since 1989) and member of the Hong Kong Art Centre Finance Committee (since 2005). In addition, she previously served as Deacon of Man Lam Christian Church and has been its honorary legal adviser, organist and choir member for over 30 years. She is a member and soprano soloist with Hong Kong Oratorio Society and performs regularly in concerts locally and abroad. In her free time, she enjoys reading, skiing and scuba diving.
