Dr. Forero holds a New York State clinical social work license and a PhD in Clinical Social Work from New York University. Her expertise is in interpersonal violent trauma and its co-morbidity with substance abuse and mental illness. She has 35 years of clinical experience including supervision of therapists and supervisors. She is a clinical consultant and lectures extensively at national and  local professional venues on the subject of trauma and its treatment as well as the impact of working with trauma survivors on the providers. For the past 10 years she was the senior clinical director at an out-patient mental health facility that under her direction has became the only state- licensed mental health facility specializing in crime victims in the New York State. She has served as expert witness in numerous civil and criminal cases and provides culturally sensitive forensic evaluations of post-traumatic reactions in individuals seeking asylum to the United States on the basis of political, religious and gender persecution and torture in their country of origin. She co-founded The Balkan Rape Crisis Treatment Team, which conducted seminars on rape trauma treatment for mental health and medical providers Croatia. Her doctoral dissertation is a study on psychological aspects of the battered woman’s experience. She is adjunct faculty and faculty advisor at New York University School of Social Work and has a private psychotherapy practice.
