Taken from the briefing Demystifying Medicaid Expansion: A Review of a Critical Health Coverage Program recorded June, 2017 in New York.

Medicaid, a health program jointly funded by states and the federal government that serves millions of low-income individuals, is a critical component of the nation’s coverage landscape. Traditionally Medicaid has provided health coverage for the elderly, disabled, pregnant women and children with low income. Although it has been a politically charged issue, through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the majority of states have chosen to expand Medicaid to low-income adults using different strategies. This Briefing will provide an overview of the key elements and implications of Medicaid expansion and the potential policy changes that could occur in the changing health care landscape.
