David R. Boyko is a Director in the Law Department of Merck & Co., Inc., where he is in the Corporate Development, Licensing and Joint Ventures Group.  David's practice focuses on legal support for licensing and business development activities across the entire range of pharmaceutical product activities, from early-stage research to late-stage clinical products. His practice also includes leading M&A transactions for the OTC and animal health business units and performing alliance management tasks such as identifying joint working rules, managing partner relations, and resolving existing and incipient problems. He has extensive experience, in both private practice and in-house roles, with a broad range of licensing, M&A and technology transactions, both patent and non-patent based. He has represented (and has worked for) both start-up and well established companies.

His prior experience includes Vice President, Licensing & Legal Services at Xenogen Corporation (now Caliper Life Sciences), and private practice in the Technology Transactions Group of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and in the Litigation Department of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.  He has a number of published articles on intellectual property matters, and has chaired licensing panels at several annual meetings of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

David earned his J.D. degree from the University of California Los Angeles, his M.A. degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California and his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University. Prior to his law career, he served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He is a CLP™ - Certified Licensed Professional from the Licensing Executive Society and serves on the boards of two local not-for-profit organizations, as well as on the board of the Association of Corporate Counsel New Jersey Chapter.
