Law Offices of Eugene M. Cummings, P.C.
Attorney At Law
Chicago, IL, USA

David obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1973, a Master of Arts degree in chemistry from the University of Missouri in 1977 and a law degree (with honors) from Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago Kent College of Law in 1981.  David specializes in patent, trademark, copyright and related matters.

David’s legal practice has involved a broad range of intellectual property legal matters.  He has analyzed, prepared, filed and prosecuted numerous patent applications involving the mechanical and chemical arts.  Further, he has supervised and aided other attorneys in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a diverse range of technologies.  As a trial lawyer, he has represented inventors, start-ups and companies in many patent infringement actions involving the mechanical and chemical arts.  While most of these litigations were settled amicably prior to actual trial, virtually all of them involved issues related to claim construction.

A significant portion of David's practice has involved counseling and providing opinions on patents, wherein he has addressed fundamental patent law issues including claim construction, infringement and validity questions, and damages.  Since the Federal Circuit's inception in October 1982, he actively has followed the changing nuances in the intellectual property law by monitoring and reviewing the court's published opinions.
