DAVID J. FREEMAN

Mr. Freeman is a partner, Chair of the New York Environmental Practice and Co-Lead of the Climate Change and Sustainability Practice of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker

Mr. Freeman's practice focuses on representation of buyers, sellers and developers of brownfields and other contaminated properties; representation of parties engaged in hazardous waste cleanups; litigation related to remediation, cost recovery, property damage and exposure to toxic substances; conducting and/or supervising environmental due diligence; and advising clients on green development, climate change and sustainability issues.

Mr. Freeman is a frequent speaker and writer on environmental topics. He is a contributing author to the American Bar Association's handbook, Environmental Aspects of Real Estate Transactions and a member of the Board of Advisors of Real Estate/ Environmental Liability News. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of West Publications' Journal of Environmental Law & Practice and is an Annual Update Editor for West's treatise, Environmental Law & Regulation in New York

Mr. Freeman is also active in pro bono and bar association activities. He is a member of the Board of Trustees and Vice Chair of the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and is a Director of the New York City Brownfield Partnership. He is also Co-Chair of the Committee on Hazardous Waste of New York State Bar Association's Environmental Law Section, Co-Chair of the Section's Task Force on Brownfields/Superfund Reform, and the recipient of the Section's 2001 Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Freeman is listed in Chambers & Partners' Client's Guide to America's Leading Lawyers for Business, New York Superlawyers and Marquis' Who's Who in American Law.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Freeman served as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Frank E. Moss (D-Utah) and a trial attorney at the Federal Trade Commission. He received both his undergraduate and law degrees cum laude from Harvard University. He is a member of the New York, Massachusetts and District of Columbia bars.
