Main tasks : Coordinating all financial services policy; Commission representative in Financial Services Committee (FSC) and deputy on Economic and Finance Committee (EFC); Commission lead on financial services regulatory dialogue with the US; high level participation in G20/FSB working groups (financial Sherpas etc); coordination of financial services policy during the financial crisis; rapporteur of the de Larosière group on Supervisory Reform (October 2008 - February 2009); Chairman of the European Banking Committee; delivered many speeches and published articles in various journals on European financial integration

 Main tasks : Driving forward European financial integration; overall policy conception and delivery under the authority of the Commissioner and Director General; negotiating with Council/EP on major securities market texts; ensuring success of the Lamfalussy process (where I was the rapporteur); representing the Commission in the EFC, FSC; Chairman of European Securities Committee; CESAME; lead on EU-US financial services dialogue plus emerging dialogues with China, Russia, and Japan; Commission representative in CESR; communicating EU policy financial services widely among major financial institutions and financial market places…

ADVISER, FORWARD STUDIES UNIT (FSU)

Prepared first Commission paper on economic reform for the Lisbon European Council; January/February 2000 chaired Interservices group on improving coherence of Community instruments to stimulate seed and early stage capital; participated in draft of President Prodi's "E-Europe" initiative

- I chaired 240 Cabinet meetings plus Interservices/Cabinet groups on preparation of Financial Services Action Plan, Risk Capital

 Action Plan and its October 1999 review, entrepreneurship/SME's, the Single Market Action Plan, SME's and services, public services, e commerce, employment and the emerging information society and subsidiarity - all of which led to significant political initiatives
