Daniel A. Petalas

Since February 2012, Dan Petalas has served as the Associate General Counsel for Enforcement in the Office of General Counsel at the Federal Election Commission. In that capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the federal civil enforcement effort concerning the Federal Election Campaign Act and related Commission regulations.

From 2003 to 2012, Dan was a Trial Attorney in the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he supervised criminal investigations and prosecutions of federal offenses involving local, state, and federal government officials and employees. From 1999 to 2003, Dan was an Associate in the law firm of Vinson & Elkins, LLP, and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas M. Reavley on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Dan graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and served as the Managing Editor of the Texas Law Review. He received an MA in English Literature from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and his BA in English from California State University, Fullerton.
