Claudette Christian is a partner in the firm’s Finance practice group and the former Co-Chair of the Global Board of Hogan Lovells. She is the Office Managing Partner of the firm’s offices in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil.

Claudette has more than 30 years of commercial and corporate transactional experience, much of it international in scope, in common and civil law jurisdictions. She advises clients on general business matters from initial company organization through maturity. She represents clients in cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and spin-offs; equity and debt financings; joint ventures and strategic alliances; project development and financing; and commercial transactions. She also routinely represents clients obtaining financing support from export credit agencies and international financial institutions.

Claudette has worked extensively in Brazil since 1997 where she has advised both Brazilian and internationally based companies in the Brazilian and wider Latin American transactional markets.  She is currently working on corporate and finance transactions in the education, energy, healthcare, infrastructure, oil and gas, telecommunications and transportation industries. She is also currently assisting international clients with issues related to their entry and expansion of operations in Brazil and Brazilian clients with their global operations. Most recently, she has been advising clients in respect of dispute resolution measures, with a particular focus on international arbitration.

Given her work in representing clients in infrastructure and energy projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, including in Namibia, Nigeria, and Rwanda, Claudette is also actively involved in the firm’s Africa practice.

Claudette is a regular speaker and lecturer on legal issues arising in cross-border transactions, international financings and the Brazilian energy sector.
