Christopher T. Heffelfinger

Christopher T. Heffelfinger is a shareholder in the San Francisco office of Berman DeValerio, P.C. Mr. Heffelfinger focuses on securities, antitrust and consumer litigation and has litigated class actions in the high-tech, real estate, pharmaceutical, gasoline and manufacturing industries from a plaintiff’s perspective. In addition, Mr. Heffelfinger currently represents an insurer in health care fraud litigation involving challenged fraudulent billing and kickback abuses against a series of ambulatory surgery centers in California. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Heffelfinger practiced securities and bankruptcy litigation for nine years with law firms in San Francisco and Marin County, California. Cases in which Mr. Heffelfinger has had either a leadership role or a significant contributing role include, but are not limited to, the following: In re Velti Securities Litigation, (N.D. CA. 2014); appointed by Special Master, Hon. Charles B. Renfrew, as resellers’ allocation counsel in In Re Dynamic Random Access Memory Litigation (N.D. CA 2014) (Indirect) (working with counsel for direct and indirect purchasers and attorneys’ general, and their respective experts’ regression reports to allocate settlement proceeds in the chain of distribution according to economic losses passed on/absorbed); In Re Reformulated Gasoline & Patent Litigation, (C.D. CA 2009) ($48 million cy pres settlement to be applied towards (1) a California statewide automobile repair and scrap program to reduce emissions of hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen and particulate matter; and (2) an open-grants program for projects demonstrating fuel or clean air emissions benefits); In re DRAM Access Memory Antitrust Litigation (Direct 2008) (executive committee member taking depositions in antitrust case alleging conspiracy by manufacturers of dynamic random access memory to fix prices; settlement totaling $320 million achieved); In re Warnaco Securities Litigation, (SDNY 2004) (successful reversal on appeal to Second Circuit) ($13 million); In re LDK Solar Company Securities Litigation (N.D. CA) (alleging inventory accounting fraud; deposition discovery in U.S. and Hong Kong; settled for $12 million); In re Broadcom Securities Litigation, (C.D. CA 2006), invited by lead counsel to conduct series of depositions (fact and expert) in securities case alleging improper accounting treatment of warrants used to make acquisitions of other companies; settled for $150 million). Mr. Heffelfinger is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College, BA in Economics 1977; and the University of San Francisco School of Law, 1984. Mr. Heffelfinger has been named a Super Lawyer from 2009-14. Mr. Heffelfinger served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1977-80, and, again, for nine months from 1990-91, when he was recalled back to active duty in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm.
