Christopher M. Koa serves as Of Counsel in the Licensing and Technology Commerce Practice Group in Dorsey &Whitney’s Corporate Group based in Seattle. He has over 20 years of experience with domestic and international technology transactions, including cloud computing, software licensing and information technology (“IT”) services and strategic sourcing, as well as the IT aspects of M&A and other transactions.

Before joining Dorsey, he served as IT / M&A Transactions Counsel at BP Americas since 2012. While at BP, he was responsible for the IT legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions and divestitures including drafting and negotiating asset and share purchase agreements and transition services agreements for multiple international business units within BP in addition to technology transactions including cloud computing, software licensing and IT outsourcing matters.

Before joining BP, Christopher held senior in-house counsel positions focused on technology transactions, IT and corporate transactional work with Microsoft, Dell, Prudential Financial, Microsoft Corporation and start-up Kintana, Inc.

Before acquiring extensive in-house legal experience, Christopher was in private practice with two major California-based law firms.

He has also acquired business-side experience as an investment banker with WR Hambrecht + Co. focused on capital raising and M&A for emerging growth companies and business development and legal technologies experience with Marsh McLennan.

During his in-house years, he was an active member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, where he served as Co-Chair of the Cloud Computing Subcommittee and was a frequent speaker on contract negotiation and drafting, cloud computing and other IT business law matters and Co. Christopher is also very engaged in the activities of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
