Christian Liipfert graduated summa cum laude from the American University’s Washington College of Law in 1979. 

He has practiced law for more than thirty years, beginning  with a law firm in Washington, DC, and then joining Schlumberger, first in Atlanta (in the electricity measurement business) and then in Paris (in the oil well cementing and fracturing business).  He moved to Amoco in Chicago, working in petrochemicals and then environmental, and then to Hong Kong where he was the Managing Attorney for operations in Asia – chiefly petrochemicals. Following the merger between Amoco and BP, he moved to Houston, where he was the Managing Attorney for Special Projects and Transactions, and then the Managing Attorney for HSSE, Crisis Management & Technology for the exploration and production business in the Lower 48.  From 2007 to 2009, he was the Programme Director, Global Information & Records, working with BP’s Compliance, IT, Safety and Operations, Privacy, Security, Records Management and Legal departments to establish and integrate information policy and procedure around the world, and from 2009 until he left BP, he was the Information Policy Director.

He left BP in 2010 and now consults on information-related issues, crisis management, and knowledge management, and writes a daily blog on information-related news items, infogovnuggets.com.  He teaches a course in Information Governance and Information Management at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business, and authored a chapter in Ted Bank’s Corporate Compliance Handbook (Wolters Kluwer), 2007- present, titled “Using Technology for Compliance Training and Monitoring.”  His website is www.liipfertconsulting.com and his email address is christian@liipfertconsulting.com
