Dr. Agris obtained a B.A. in Chemistry from Goucher College in 1979 and her Ph.D. from the Department of Biochemistry at the Johns Hopkins University in January 1986. From March 1986 to March 1988, she was a research fellow at the Sloan Kettering Institute. A representative list of Cheryl Agris's scientific publications is attached.  During the period of March 1988-May 1992, Dr. Agris was a law clerk with the biotechnology group at Pennie and Edmonds, and a part-time evening student at Brooklyn Law School. Dr. Agris became a patent agent in 1990 and obtained a J.D. degree in June 1992. Dr. Agris was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1992 and to the New York bar in 1993. From May 1992-March 1998, Dr. Agris was a Patent Attorney at Novo Nordisk of North America. Cheryl Agris has been in private practice since March 1998.
Dr. Agris has participated in the preparation and prosecution of more than 225 patents. She is the principal author of the Practitioner’s Manual of Patent Examining Procedure  and author of  Practitioner's Patent Guidelines both published by Thomson-Reuters and has published articles on a variety of patent issues such as patenting DNA and protein sequences, intellectual property protection for plants, deposit of microorganisms, alternative dispute resolution and international patent filing. Dr. Agris has given presentations on patent law matters sponsored by the Biotechnology Industrial Organization (BIO), New York Biotechnology Association (NYBA), National Association of Patent Practitioners, Law Seminars International, International Intellectual Property Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, Eastern New York Intellectual Property Association and New York Intellectual Property Association.  Representative published patent applications, issued patents, legal related publications and lectures are provided.
