Charles (“Chip”) Peters is a partner at Schiff Hardin, where he has practiced for more than 30 years. He serves as the firm’s general counsel, chairs the firm’s Professional Practice Committee and teaches Professional Responsibility and Ethics as an adjunct professor at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.

Chip previously led the firm’s General Litigation Group. His current practice places a particular emphasis on the telecommunications industry. He has successfully defended major telecommunications companies in a wide variety of matters, including class actions involving alleged violations of consumer protection statutes, antitrust laws, constitutional provisions, and other state and federal laws. Chip has significant trial experience in both state and federal courts, having successfully defended clients at trial against billion-dollar claims and obtained multi-million verdicts on behalf of other clients.

Chip has also handled numerous matters on a pro bono basis, working with the American Civil Liberties Union, the Center for Constitutional Rights, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, and the Uptown People’s Law Center.

Chip serves on the boards of the Legal Aid Society of Chicago and the James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy. He also serves on the advisory board of the Center on Wrongful Convictions.

Chip is a graduate of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and he received his B.S. from Miami University.
