Bruce Ives is senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Professional Outreach, Pro Bono and Civic Engagement.  He is responsible for the Office of the General Counsel’s Pro Bono Program, law school recruiting, attorney development and outreach to the legal community. 

Before his current role Ives was senior vice president and deputy general counsel for the HP Enterprise Group and prior to that he served as VP & DGC for Intellectual Property, IP Licensing and HP Labs.  He has held a variety of other leadership positions with the Legal and Government Affairs teams during his 18 years at HP.

Ives serves on the Board of Public Advocates, a California public interest law firm and prior to that was a Board member of the Volunteer Legal Services Program in San Francisco.  He has been honored for his pro bono leadership by the Bar Association of San Francisco and California’s One Justice organization.  He is a frequent contributor on pro bono and access to justice issues, speaking at conferences organized by the Pro Bono Institute and the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association and testifying before California’s Access to Justice Commission.  Ives has also served two terms in elected office as a Trustee of the Menlo Park School Board.

Before joining HP, Ives managed the district office of Palo Alto's local congressional representative and worked on several major political campaigns.  He also has prior experience in both criminal and civil litigation.

Ives received his B.A. from Harvard University in 1982 and his J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley in 1986.
