Brian F. Richards is a partner in the Private Equity practice at Paul Hastings in the Chicago office. He concentrates his practice in the areas of middle market private equity and mergers and acquisitions. Working closely with the Tax practice, Mr. Richards represents private equity funds in structuring, negotiating, and documenting investments in, leveraged buyouts of, and sales of, portfolio companies. He also represents a number of companies in their mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and day-to-day legal needs. Mr. Richards represents clients in several industries including manufacturing, health care, and technology.

Mr. Richards is active in several philanthropic organizations dedicated to improving opportunities for inner-city children. He serves as the vice chairman of the boards of trustees for Holy Trinity High School, and is a member of the Children's Inner City Educational Fund/Holy Angels Advisory Board on the South Side of Chicago.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Richards was the co-chair of the Private Equity practice at a multinational law firm and vice president and general counsel of a software development company. Before that, he practiced with a multinational law firm in Chicago in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and secured lending. He is listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as a leader in his field (2007-2010) and in The Best Lawyers in America (2010).

Mr. Richards received his J.D. degree in 1992 from the University of Virginia School of Law as an Armour Scholar and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He graduated with highest honors from the University of Illinois in 1989 with a B.S. degree in Finance.
