Brian D. Coad is Managing Director and Assistant General Counsel at The Bank of New York Mellon.  Among his duties at the bank, Mr. Coad manages the legal department’s government Enforcement and Investigations Unit, which deals with all significant regulatory, law enforcement and internal investigations across the organization. 

Before joining The Bank of New York Mellon, Mr. Coad served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he was a member of the Major Crimes Unit and the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force, as well as a unit supervisor and senior trial counsel.  

Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, and after serving a clerkship with the Hon. Lloyd F. MacMahon, former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Mr. Coad was an associate at Covington & Burling and an Assistant Independent Counsel.

Mr. Coad is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary.   In 1983 he was awarded his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center.  Mr. Coad is a member of the bar in New York and the District of Columbia.
