Brant Imperatore recently joined Cypress after five years at a large Washington government affairs firm where he directed the firm’s financial services practice area. As a partner at the Cypress Group,Brant serves both Cypress Advocacy and Advisory clients.

Brant served in the House of Representatives as Senior Counsel to the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and GSE’s from 2000 to 2002. He was responsible for a variety of different legislative issues including bank regulatory relief, securities analyst conflicts, hedge fund disclosure, derivatives legislation, and national insurance product and licensing uniformity. He served as legal and policy advisor to Congressman Richard H. Baker (R-LA), Subcommittee Chairman and managed the Subcommittee agenda with the Chairman and Committee staff.

In his lobbying career, he has seen a number of successes in the financial services arena, and received the rare honor of being personally thanked on the House floor for his help in passing legislation to bring check processing laws into the technological age. Brant’s lobbying work has run the gamut of financial services issues and organizations, including mortgage reform, financial crisis response, accounting, derivatives, insurance, tax, anti-money laundering, commercial and consumer lending and consumer data. He has served as the sole Washington advisor for a large regional bank, as the director of three issue-specific financial services coalitions, lobbied for industry associations and represented foreign banks.

In addition to his client work, Brant serves as the general counsel to the Cypress Group. Earlier in his career, Brant was a partner at the D.C. law firm of O’Connor and Hannan and an associate at the New Orleans firm of Frilot Partridge.

Brant received his MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia,graduated cum laude from Tulane University Law School, and graduated with high distinction from the University of Virginia in 1994. He is a member of the Louisiana Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. Brant lives with his wife Jane and their two children in McLean, Virginia.
