Brad Whitman is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Financial Institutions Mergers & Acquisitions. Based in New York, he is a member of the Investment Banking Business Development Committee and previously served as a member of the firm's Fairness Opinion Committee.

Mr. Whitman recently advised on Capital One's $9.0 billion announced acquisition of ING Direct USA, on the S.C. Johnson families' $235 million announced recapitalization of Johnson Financial Group, on Sterling Financial's announced acquisition of select assets and operations of First Independent Bank, on Discover's $4.2 billion acquisition of Citigroup's Student Loan Corp., on Barclays' $15.2 billion sale of Barclays Global Investors (BGI) to Blackrock, on Lehman Brothers' $1.75 billion sale of selected businesses and assets to Barclays Capital, and on Mubadala's $8.0 billion joint venture with GE.

In his previous role as Co-Head of the Communications Group, he advised on AT&T's $89.6 billion acquisition of BellSouth, on Sprint's $46.5 billion merger with Nextel and on Cingular's $47.0 billion acquisition of AT&T Wireless.

Mr. Whitman first joined Lehman Brothers from 1986 to 1988.  After studying and then practicing M&A and securities law at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, he returned to Lehman Brothers in 1994 and joined Barclays Capital in September 2008.

He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia in 1991 and his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Amherst College in 1986.

Mr. Whitman is a member of the Board of Directors of The Fresh Air Fund, which since 1877 has served many of New York City's neediest children.
