Mr. Nicholas advises over 100 public pension and Taft-Hartley plans on the recovery and protection of plan assets impacted by securities fraud. He leads BLB&G's Direct Action practice group and has achieved notable successes on behalf of prominent mutual funds, hedge funds and a public pension fund in cases such as the Tyco International direct action, in which he obtained a $105 million settlement, a significant multiplier over the recovery in the securities class action. He has also served as co-lead counsel on behalf of institutional investors in major securities class actions including In re Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. Securities Litigation, which was successfully resolved for $173 million - the largest stock-option backdating settlement in the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Nicholas also served as co-lead trial counsel in In re Clarent Corporation Securities Litigation, in which the jury reached a liability verdict against the company's CEO; In re Williams Securities Litigation, which resolved for $311 million; and In re Informix Securities Litigation, which resolved for $142 million.
