Avantika Shastri is the Legal Director for the San Francisco Immigrant Legal Defense Collaborative (SFILDC) and the Immigrant Legal Defense Program at the Justice and Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco (JDC).   For the SFILDC, she oversees and coordinates the legal representation provided by 15 non-profit organizations to defend individuals, children, and families in removal proceedings in Northern California.  The SFILDC is also part of the San Francisco Rapid Response Network, which provides emergency legal services for individuals targeted by immigration enforcement actions.  Ms. Shastri also supervises the JDC’s Immigrant Legal Defense Program, which consists of five separate projects to protect the due process rights of unrepresented individuals facing removal in Northern California, including one project that is focused on designing a regional rapid response system. Prior to her position at the JDC, Ms. Shastri was in private practice for ten years at Van Der Hout, Brigagliano and Nightingale, LLP in San Francisco, where she represented immigrants before the immigration agencies and federal courts.  She specialized in removal defense and appellate litigation, family-based immigration, naturalization, and the immigration consequences of crimes.  Ms. Shastri received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.
