Anne P. Ray concentrates her practice in complex civil litigation, representing clients in both state and federal court throughout all phases of litigation. She focuses on professional liability litigation and securities and commodities litigation. Ms. Ray is a member of the firm’s Professional Responsibility Practice Group and has experience representing large, national law firms in defense of complex, high-stakes professional liability litigation at both the trial and appellate level.

Ms. Ray has experience in a wide range of issues related to the financial services industry, including commodities and futures regulation, collateralized debt obligations and structured derivative products, and regulations governing broker-dealers and futures commission merchants.  She has worked on securities-related derivative lawsuits asserting claims under the 1933 and 1934 Acts, has advised the trustee for a bankrupt investment adviser in cases against its brokers asserting securities fraud and bribery in connection with the purchase of collateralized debt obligations, and represents Designated Self-Regulatory Organizations in connection with bankruptcy proceedings of their member firms.

Ms. Ray represents both paying and pro bono clients in litigation, arbitration, and mediation.  She has tried a number of jury and bench trials and hearings to verdict and has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Ms. Ray has an active pro bono practice, focusing on trial and appellate level criminal defense in both federal and state court.  She is also active in the community, participating in the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice and serving on the Board of Between Friends, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and building a community free of abuse.

Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Ms. Ray served as a law clerk for the Honorable James P. Hurley of the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey from 2003-2004 and as a court attorney for the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Department from 2004-2006. During law school, Ms. Ray participated in the Washington, DC Congressional Clinic, where she served as a legal intern in the United States Senate for Senator Christopher J. Dodd.
