Anne E. Aikman-Scalese

Ms. Aikman-Scalese has over 25 years of experience negotiating a wide variety of business and commercial contracts with a special emphasis on intellectual property matters, including branding, trademark registration, copyright, and licensing. Anne began her legal career with The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati and then moved to Los Angeles as Legal and Business Affairs Director for Norman Lear’s companies and later Telepictures. Thereafter she returned to the Midwest and served for over five years as Corporate Counsel to a mid-sized banking and securities firm, relocating to Tucson in 2000. In Tucson, Anne served for over six years as General Counsel to a mass market retail design and manufacturing firm just prior to joining Waterfall, Economidis in 2007.

Anne’s current trademark clients include a Fortune 500 company, a major University, a Biotech licensing firm, a mass market retail designer, a film production company, a prominent Southwestern artist, an historic attraction, public access television, and a web-based start-up. Anne has prosecuted more than 300 applications at the U.S. Trademark Office as well as various Madrid Protocol registrations at the World Intellectual Property Organization. She has also supervised international filings made by correspondent attorneys in Canada, Israel, China, Japan, Europe, the Middle East, and South America, and negotiated numerous license agreements, trademark consent agreements, and settlement agreements in intellectual property disputes.

An active Member of the Dean’s Intellectual Property Advisory Law Board at her alma mater, Indiana University School of Law, Anne has been an invited speaker there and at legal seminars across the country, including the PLI “Advanced Licensing Seminar”. She is Co-Chair of the upcoming PLI seminar “Trademark Aspects of Pharmaceutical and BioTech”.

Honors received by Anne include the Phi Beta Kappa Society, National Moot Court Order of the Barristers, American Film Institute Producing Fellow, and an Emmy nomination. She is also a member of the Association of University Technology Managers and the International Trademark Association where she serves in leadership on the Related Rights Committee.
